SHAKER KITCHENS

This ever-popular kitchen design dates all the way back to the 18th century and is named after the Quakers religious group (also known as the ‘Shaking Quakers’, or Shakers for short).

The Shakers believed in simplicity and function above elaborate details or decorative features, and this was evident in their architecture and furniture. Shaker furniture was plain in style, durable, and functional.

A Shaker-style kitchen is elegant in its simplicity yet practical above all else. Based on the uncluttered, orderly way of life led by the Shakers, this kitchen style lends itself to the busy lifestyles of the modern-day.

Although modern shaker kitchen cabinets are manufactured using advanced machinery and computers, they still retain the signatory framed panel door and drawer fronts designed by the original Shaker craftsmen.

Shaker kitchen cabinets can suit both modern and traditional style homes depending on the handles and appliances you choose.

Traditional Shaker kitchen

The classic Shaker kitchen features cup pull handles, traditional lighting fixtures and neutral colour schemes and incorporates natural elements of stone and timber.

Modern Shaker kitchen

Modernise the classic Shaker design by choosing bold or contrasting colours, modern handled (or even handle-less) cabinets, contemporary feature lighting and sleek, ultra-modern appliances and accessories.
